New Courses at Marudhar Kesari Jain College

Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women Vaniyambadi, has decided to introduce to undergraduate and one postgraduate course from the academic year 2007-2008. The course are B.A. (English), B.Sc. (Biotechnology) and M.Sc. (Biotechnology). With the proposed courses, the college will be offering a total number of 10 undergraduate and five postgraduate courses.

Principal D. Karnnakan says more courses will be introduced in future, as the institution is the only arts college that caters to higher education of girl students from.

Vaniyambadi and Tirupattur. The college has 900 students on its rolls, and offers Internet facility for its students. The college, attached to Thiruvallur University, has been continuously producing good results. Last academic year, a B.Sc. Computer Science student secured a university rank. The college has got B++ accreditation from the National Academic and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. The accreditation is based on three parameters – available infrastructure, quality of faculty and students’ performance. The college has sent in proposals for introducing M.Phil courses. The proposals are pending with the University. Dr. Karunakaran says that in addition to the regular course modules, the college offers various has introduced short term courses in medical transcription, career guidance, spoken English yoga and meditation. Short-term computer courses have been introduced for students from other steams. The short-term courses are for three months. The college pools out a select number of students from various streams for the short-term courses. In addition to the normal course module, the college offer advanced courses in Linux Operating System and Java for the students of Computer Science. Dr. Karunakaran says the college placement cell is active, and more than 40-50 per cent of final year students get placement in various companies through campus interview. Soft ware companies such WIPRO, Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions recruit final-year students of Computer Science. Banks such ICICI recruit students of Commerce and Business Administration through campus interview 150 students have got jobs.
