School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu has voiced concern over the poor performance of Cuddalore district in education.
The district stands at 29th place in SSLC results and 28th in Plus Two results in the State.
Attending a review meeting here on Wednesday, Mr. Thennarasu said the onus of improving the students' performance rested with teachers.
They should identify slow learners and give them special coaching.
The Minister said the teachers should also upgrade their teaching skills by undergoing special courses.
The department would provide facilities such as adequate number of buildings, laboratories, drinking water and toilets to schools. It would also take steps to fill vacancies.
He called upon educational officers to regularly visit schools, ascertain their requirements and fulfil them.
The Chief Educational Officer and other officials in the education department should take efforts to scale up the performance of the district.
