A Platform for the Students by Hindu E Plus
The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling session organised in association with Vignan Engineering Colleges here on Sunday gave a platform to many students and parents to get several questions answered by an eminent panel of resource persons.
The questions related to advantages and disadvantages of different branches of engineering, the method of web counselling, educational loans, local and non – local quota, deemed universities and so on. Here are a few :
Q : What is the quota reserved for non – local candidates?
A : There is no special quota reserved for non – local candidates. The rule is that the number of seats allotted under non – local category should not exceed 15 per cent of the total seats in any area. If any one has the residence certificate, he will be treated as local candidate for that particular place. Study certificates will also be considered in deciding a candidate as local or not.
Q : Can we appear for the second phase of counselling, if a seat is already allotted in the first counselling?
Q : If we choose a seat allotted in the second counselling, how to get the money refunded?
Q : Is any extra fee charged for self – financed courses?
Q : Is mechanical engineering suitable for girls?
Q : What should be considered at the time of counselling – best college or a best course?
A : It’s always wise to opt for any course in a best college with good infrastructure for better employment opportunities, rather than study a best course in a college that does not have good faculty and infrastructure. Companies that recruit the people always want to take the creamy section of the students. Naturally, all the good students will opt for best colleges, and thus get good job offers.
Q : What are the opportunities for Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering?
A : There are plenty of jobs being offered by the companies manufacturing electronic gadgets for those passing out from the EIE branch. The designing and manufacturing of such gadgets is done only by the experts of this field. Opting for this branch will be a wise decision.
Q : Why do software companies prefer students of ECE branch only?
A : There is a tendency of a majority of clever students going in for ECE course. And companies too look for bright students even though the course he or she is studying is not relevant to the job offered. They will select the bright students from many branches and train them for the required position.
Q : Will banks provide loans to the students joining a course under management quota too?
A : Yes, there is a chance to get loans for management quota seats as well. Students can take loans for amounts up to Rs. 4 lakh to study in India without producing any collateral. All the required things like computer, hostel fee and transportation will be covered under the loan.
Q : What is the future for the students of aeronautical engineering?
A : The course is a unique one, but in our country the quality of the course is not up to the mark. It is better to take these kinds of specialisations at the post graduation level. Foreign universities are offering good quality of education in this particular branch. But job opportunities are aplenty in organisations like the ISRO.
Q : What is the difference between B. Pharmacy and Pharma. D?
A : A person completing this newly introduced Pharma. D course is supposed to work as a medical guide for the patient and he or she has to assist the doctor in the medical care. B. Pharmacy is basically to deal with drugs preparation methods and research in the field. One should prefer to complete M. Pharma after the B. Pharma course.
