Probe on into complaints of excess fee collection
Following complaints of excess fee collection received against aided schools from various places in the State, including Chennai and Madurai, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu has ordered immediate inspection.
“We came to know from the public that certain schools collected excess money from parents towards building fund/donation, etc.
Since parents will not get any receipt for that, I have asked officials of the Department of School Education to visit the schools and check their records,” the Minister told The Hindu here on Tuesday. More complaints came from Chennai and institutions in and around Madurai.
Mr. Thennarasu said even though a stern warning had been issued to aided schools, he would not stop at that. “I told the Director of School Education to ask district-level officials to check the fee records.
These rampant violations should not continue because the aided schools receive government grant.”
The Minister was here in connection with a ‘mega job fair’ he had organised for the youth of the Aruppukottai Assembly constituency, which he represents, to mark the 85th birthday celebrations of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
“Even today (June 10) there was a specific complaint against an aided school in Madurai and immediately the Chief Educational Officer was alerted to look into it,” the Minister said. According to him, a committee constituted for the purpose is probing these complaints.
