Chennai: The overall pass percentage in the SSLC examination this year witnessed a marginal increased of 1.0 percent over last year's 77.6. While girls maintained the trend of outshining boys and secured top ranks, only 32.06 percent of the candidates secured aggregate marks of above 60 percent.
Overall, 8,67,707 students, including private candidates, had registered for the SSLC examinations. Of this, around 7.72 lakh candidates (3.87 lakh boys and 3.85 lakh girls) appearing through schools.
Only 76 percent of the boys passed the examination, while 83 percent of the girls emerged successful.
S Akshaya of St Mary's Girls HSS, Chengalpattu, Secured the top rank with 490 marks. The second rank is shared by three students - S Jazima Sulaiha of Amali Girls HSS, Cheranmanhadevi; B Sivakamasundari of Government Girls High School, Tiruvarur and S.Divya Bharathi of Vivekananda HSS, Puducherry - each scoring 489 marks.
The Third rank is shared by four students scoring 488 marks; R Lamshe of Amala Convent Girls HSS, Thuckalay; A Bala Vidhyaa of Spic Nagar HSS, Thoothukudi; J Aarthi of DBTR N HSS, Mayiladuthurai and; E.Karthikeyan of St.Joseph's HSS, Cudalore Meanwhile, marticulation students have secured a higher pass percentage with 93.1 registering a 3.1 percent increase over last year's results. Of the 1,05,883 students who took the exams, 83,804 secured 60 percent and above marks. G.Aarthy of Kalaimagai Kalvi Girls, Matriculation School, Erode, has secured the top rank with 1,074 marks followed by V.Palanisamy of MAM School, Sankaraidurg with 1,071 marks. S.kopika of Bharat Montes MHSS, Tenkasi obtained the third rank with 1.070marks.
The overall pass percentage among Anglo-Indian schools is 94.4 percent. Of the total 4,710 candidates 3,841 secured 60 percent and above marks.
This year 97.7 percent of girls and 91.1 per cent of boys passed the examinations. Students from Tiruchy bagged the first two ranks - S Subashree of St Joseph's School with 963 marks and V Venkat Rajath of Campion School with 959 marks. N.Aruna, St. Francis School, Coimbatore secured the third rank.
Chennai students secured th etop three ranks od the OSLC stream, which registered 79.3 pass percentage. S.Sudha, D.Harini, R.Suganya - all students Sri Ahobila Math Oriental School secured the three ranks.
