Salem: The Salem Steel Plant (SSP) constructed a primary school building at a cost of Rs.4 lakh in Tirumalaigiri village, which was adopted by the SSP for developing it as a ‘Model Steel Village’. The SSP, Executive Director, P.M. Balasubramanian, handed over the building to the president of the village panchayat, Vairam Manikkam at a function held in the village here recently.
Speaking on a occasion, Mr.Balasubramanian said that more development work would carried out by the SSP in the surrounding villages. He thanked the officials of Tirumalaigiri Panchayat and Public Works Department for their cooperation and efforts in construction and efforts in constructing the building.
An awareness programme on uplift of women was also conducted as a part of the function. Officials from SSP and faculty members from Thangarajar Polytechnic College spoke.
The programme covered topics like income generation activities for women, upbringing of children and nutrition and family welfare. The speakers interacted with the participants and answered their queries.
A press release from SSP said that as a part of corporate Social Responsibility initiative, each SSIL (Steel Authority of India Limited) steel plant had been adopting a backward village for developing it as a Model Steel Village. Salem Steel, after inspecting the villages in its surroundings, selected Tirumalaigiri village for developing it. The SSP General Manager (Personnel & Administration) T.K. Mazumdar, and senior officials were present.
