Scheme to Help Poor Students among Minorities

New Delhi: The UPA Government will soon unveil a scheme to assist students from the economically weaker sections of minority communities. This will be done through coaching institutions that enhance their skills and capabilities to make them employable in the industry, service and business sectors in addition to the government sector.

The scheme, prepared by the Ministry for Minority Affairs, has a built-in response to market dynamics on an ongoing basis so that the target groups are not deprived of the professional acumen demanded by the changing/emerging market needs and employment opportunities at domestic and international levels.

The scheme will provide for. special coaching for qualifying examinations for admission to technical/professional courses such as engineering, law, medical, management and information technology; language/aptitude examinations required for admission to foreign universities; competitive examinations for recruitment to top posts under the Central and State Govt including police/security forces, public sector undertakings, Railways, banks, insurance firms and autonomous bodies.

There" will be coaching for jobs in the private sector and also remedial coaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels to improve academic knowledge and enable students to keep up with the class and complete the course successfully.

All institutes in the government sector — universities, colleges and autonomous bodies engaged in the coaching activities; institutes in the private sector engaged in coaching activities/job oriented coaching training for placement in private sectors, which is a trust, company, partnership firm, or society registered under relevant law and of relevant industry, bodies or institutes, preferably identified by them are eligible to run the coaching programmes under this scheme

The Ministry of Minority Affairs will advertise the details of the scheme and invite proposal from the coaching / training institutes by April 30 of every year.

Only candidates belonging to the minority communities with a total family income from all sources not exceeding Rs.2.50/- lakh per annum, who have secured the requisite percentage of marks in the prescribe qualifying examination, will be eligible under the scheme
