New Delhi: Work is on in full swing to set up six institutes modeled on
AIIMS, in Jodhpur, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna and Rishikesh. Construction work on these institutes will start this year and is expected to complete by 2010. A sum of about 330 crore has been allocated for each institute, to come up in a 100 – acre plot.
Water and power consultants have been roped in for carrying out pre-construction surveys and the process of getting environment impact assessment (IHA) clearance has already begun.
“Soil analyses and geotechnical surveys, which include, investigations and material, assessing risks, posed by site conditions, designing earthworks and structure, designing earthworks and structure foundations, topography, and hydro surveys, are currently under way. The EIA will be submitted next year and by mid next year, we hope to get clearance to,” said an official in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Pre-engineered designs are being looked into extensively.
“A common design will be formulated for the institutes, but local design elements will be simultaneously incorporated. We are planning in such a way that the six institutes can share their resource and manpower. Right now, the project management committee is in the process of engaging consultants and working on detailed project (DRPs),” added the official.
Each institute will also have an 850 – bed hospital providing treatment in 39 speciality and super-speciality disciplines and will be linked through tele-medicine.
While the concept of setting up six institutes modelled on AIIMS was conceived in 2004, the Cabinet gave its approval only last March, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
Thirteen existing government institutes, situated in Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, will also be upgraded alongside. The Government has allocated Rs.100 crore for each of these 13 institutes.
The Institutes will set up in Jodhpur, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna, and Rishikesh.
