Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University Counselling 2007-08

Chennai: Counselling to the three-year BL degree course for 2007-08 began at the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University here on Monday.

In all, 6,800 applicants have applied for the 1,182 seats in the six government law colleges in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Madurai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli.

Eighteen more seats are also available under the 50 percent OC quota as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

While 366 seats (31 percent) have been allotted for the OCs, 213 (18 percent) will go to SCs, 12 seats (one per cent) for STs, 355 (30 percent) to BCs and 236 seats (20 percent) to the MBCs.

This includes 35 seats (three percent) for the physically challenged, 10 to eminent sportspersons and 12 each (one percent) to the wards of freedom fighters and ex-servicemen As many as 321 students will be admitted to the Government Law College in Chennai, 181 in Madurai, 200 each in Tiruchy, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli colleges and 80 in the Chengalpattu college.

Law Secretary S Deenadayalan and Legal Services Director C Robins participated.

The counselling will go on for five days till September 14.

Later, Vice-Chancellor S Sachidanandam told mediapersons that there was a shortage of qualified and experienced teachers in the six law colleges.

The university had invited applications for admissions to the ML post-graduate course, he said and added that the convocation would be held in October Counselling will go on for 5 days till Sept 14
