Tamil Nadu Government to overhaul Varsity Exam System

Chennai: The state Government has decided to overhaul the university examination system and constitute an experts committee to suggest measures for the purpose.

The experts committee will be headed by a former vice-chancellor, Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy stated in the policy note for his department tabled by him in the Assembly on Thursday.

The Minister said there was a need for overhauling the university examination system to rest students’ understanding of the concept and analyzing capacity rather than memory power.

He said teaching, learning and evaluation methods needed to be revisited and modalities for this worked out so that the present examination system became more analytical and responsive of the changes.

Accreditation Must: Accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) would be mandatory for all colleges from the academic year 208-09, Ponmudy said.

A State level Quality Assessment Council would be formed to carry out continuous auditing of quality of all colleges in Tamil Nadu. During the past two years, as many as 375 colleges had got accreditation, he added.
