Tamil Nadu gets one more Private Medical College

The Tamil Nadu Government on Monday issued the 'essentiality certificate' to the Deen Dayal Medical and Educational Trust in Anna Nagar to open a private medical college in Kunnavalam village in Tiruvallur district. Presently there are 15 government, one quasi-government and three self-financing Private Medical Colleges in the State. "On a careful consideration of the proposal, the government has decided to issue an essentiality certificate to the applicant for the establishment of a medical college with 150 seats from the academic year 2008-09," the certificate dated August 29,2008, said. According to Trust chairman T D Naidu, the Trust was already running a 350 bedded hospital, providing medical services to the locals. About 1,220 persons were treated as out-patients and another 350 as in-patients daily, he claimed. To be named as Deen Dayal Medical College, this will be the first medical college in Tiruvallur district; Naidu said and added that with the infra-structural facilities already in place, the college will start functioning soon after the Medical Council of India (MCI) gave its approval.
