Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Students visit Cornel University

Coimbatore: Seven students and faculty members of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had been on a two-week study tour to Cornell University, USA, from October 21 to November 4. The students of the International agriculture and Rural Development Course (INTAG) went on this trip as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between TNAU Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, and Cornwell University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, and Cornwell University, Ithaca, according to a press release of the TNAU.

The INTAG course was conducted in three modules for eight months. The first module constituted a series of video conference and video compressed lectures by Indian and overseas faculty. The second module included the visit of students and faculty to Cornell University. The third module involved a combined India.

The main areas included in the course were biotechnology, cropping systems, food processing, value addition and global marketing, rural development and social sciences. Learning process was through a series of lectures, group discussions, individual project preparations and presentations etc.

During their visit the students participated in classroom discussions, visited research farms, processing facilities and got first hand knowledge on the agricultural practices followed abroad. They also visited organic dairy farms and observed the mechanized operations. Students got a feel of state-of-the-art laboratories for food processing, soil testing and biotechnological research.

Besides this, there were interactive session with students and faculty of the Cornell University.
