Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Proficiency Test in Tamil — September 2007

It is hereby notified that the Proficiency Test in Tamil for IAS, IPS and IFS, officers borne on Tamil Nadu State Cadre whose mother-tongue is not Tamil will be conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission at its office on the 20th and 21st Sep 2007.

The last date for receipt of filled in applications in the Commission's office for these examinations is 31-07-2007. Further details are available in the Commission's website www.tnpsc.gov.in

Proficiency Test in Tamil for the officers of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian forest service borne on Tamil Nadu state cadre whose mother-tongue is not Tamil- September 2006.

(i) It is hereby notified that the Proficiency Test in Tamil for the officers of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service borne on Tamil Nadu State Cadre whose mother-tongue is not Tamil will be held on the 21st and 22nd September 2006. Persons who pass the test will be entitled to a monetary award of Rs.1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) each.

(ii) Officers of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service borne on Tamil Nadu State Cadre whose mother-tongue is not Tamil and who have not completed six years of service alone will be eligible for admission to the test, provided they have not taken Tamil as a subject or passed any Examination in Tamil in S.S.L.C and / or degree course.

(iii) An Officer will be allowed only three attempts and only those who have not completed six years of service on the date of commencement of the examination will be eligible to apply.

(iv) The Examination will be conducted at the Office of the

(v) The syllabus, the maximum number of marks and the minimum required for a pass and the duration of test are given in the Annexure to this notification.

2. No fee will be levied for admission to the test.

3. Form of application may be obtained on written requisition from the

4. Applications must be made out legibly in English on prescribed forms and must reach not later than 5.45 P.M. on 31.7.2006.

The applications which are received after this date and applications which are irregular or defective will not be considered.

5. The application duly filled in should be sent through the head of the department or office in which the applicant is employed. While forwarding the application a certificate to the effect that the candidate is eligible to apply for the test should be appended by the forwarding authority.

6. A memorandum of admission to the examination will be sent to the candidates about a week before the date of examination. Candidates who do not receive it, should apply for it, to the

7. The results of the test will be published in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Bulletin.

Syllabus for the Proficiency Test in Tamil for the Officers of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service, borne on Tamil Nadu State Cadre whose mother-tongue is not Tamil.

1) Construing Viva-Voce with readiness and accuracy prose passages selected from the S.S.L.C. Text book of the previous academic year.	-	100	50
(2) Conversing in the language with accuracy and fluency. The Test will extend to discussion of such subject as legal and administrative questions.	-	100	50

Note:

(i) S.S.L.C Standard in Tamil will be the Standard for this examination and the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Tamil text book for March-April 2006 examination under Part - I will be the prescribed text book for September 2006 examination.

(ii) Candidates should pass the examination by securing at least the minimum marks referred to in the syllabus and also pass both the parts (Written and Oral) at the same Examination.
