Three Universities to Enter into a MoU

It will focus on transfer of technology, faculty and research

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Bharathiar University and Avainashilingam University, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for transfer to technology, faculty and research, G.thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, said here on Tuesday.

“The MoU will include the Anna University (Coimbatore) to be established shortly,” he added while speaking at a function at the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology.

This was with intention of tapping local resources. “Usually MoUs, are signed with universities abroad. But why should we always borrow expertise from outside when we have it in abundance here itself.

The MoU will facilitated interdisciplinary research that will bring a new outlook to education,” Prof. Thiruvasagam said.

The Vice-Chancellor said that a ‘finishing school’ for college teachers was being planned at the university. The school would train a teacher selected by any college in both the teaching skills and the subject for a period of two months to equip him / her to become an efficient teacher.

This was an offshoot of the Tamil Nadu Government’s decision to make the 1, 600 candidates selected for appointment in aided colleges to undergo teacher’s training before they joined duty.

Prof. Thiruvasagam said that as the result of the MoU the university had entered into with the University of Arkansas, 50 students selected from the affiliated colleges would be sent abroad for study purposes.

Deserving students belonging to the disciplines of Information Technology, Computer Science, Nano-technology, Bio-informatics and Bio-technology, based on merit, would be sponsored.

“The University of Arkansas has waived the tuition fee. On their return, the students will work for a minimum period of three years in any industry.”

The Vice-Chancellor had received an invitation to visit China.

He planed to attract Chinese students to the Bharathiar University to study communicative English.

“I will encourage them to take up course in our arts and science colleges,” he said.
