Tiruchi Anna University to Promote IT-aided Education
Tiruchi: Tiruchi Anna University, which became functional earlier this month, will promote information technology-assisted education and focus on creativity and innovation.
Vice-Chancellor V.Ramachandran who assumed charge on Friday, told reporters that effective IT-assisted learning environment would be created for learners to complement existing teaching methodologies.
Web-based Education
Teachers or affiliated colleges would be initiative into Web-based education. Two years from now, teachers in affiliated college with a B.E. degree must complete post-graduation.
He said research activities would gather momentum after creation of infrastructure over a year. The university would first go for mbps connectivity and dedicated servers. It would an incubation centre that would provide space for IT companies, including Infosys, Wipro, and Sify, to develop communication competencies and soft skills of students.
The University set up would cope with recent shifts in higher education by switching over from physical to virtual classrooms, teacher-focused to learner-focused learning, and presentation mode to discovery mode. Standardized content would be replaced with individualized content. The university would facilitate learning rather than transmitting information. After studying the nature of industries and other potentialities new region-specific programmes were on the anvil.
Technical collaboration
Possibilities of offering programmes in Fisheries Technology and Port Management would been explored. The university would have technical collaboration with world-class universities. It would channelise technology for the economic uplift of society.
Nano-technology
The University would strengthen the technical contents to nano-technology and biotechnology and broad-base use of Tamil in technical education.
