Trichi Anna University Colleges to get 8 mbps Net Connectivity

By the end of this year, Anna University, Trichy, will be setting a precedent by facilitation 9 mbps (mega bits per second) connectivity to all its affiliated engineering colleges in the central and southern districts.

Twentyfive affiliated colleges had already submitted their acceptance letter to the university’s proposal and an equal number of colleges are excepted to time. Though most of the colleges already have the connectivity, it ranges between 512 kbps (kilobits per second) and 2 mbps. Only a few have 4 mbps connectivity.

At the time of renewal, they will switch over to 8 mbps connectivity. The University is in talks with service providers to extend the 1:1 link to affiliated colleges at only one-third the market price.

The talks are in advanced stages and the service providers have evinced interest, vice-chancellor V. Rama Chandran tole Education Plus. The high-end connectivity will enable affiliated colleges to have digital libraries and host their own websites.

The university has plan to tap the wide scope such connectivity offers for effective e-governance, and conduct online examinations, making the most of the service the technical experts through video-conferencing and video-streaming (live broadcasting of lecturers.)
