ACPC High Merit Seats Admission

ACPC admission for High Merit Seats

The Admission Committee for Professional Courses ( ACPC ) will announce the schedule for a fresh round of admissions to 1,000 – odd high – merit seats, which have fallen vacant in government and self – financed engineering and pharmacy courses. An admission for these seats is likely to be held in the last week of September.

Officials said 212 degree seats in government engineering colleges, 476 degree engineering seats in self – financed colleges and 276 seats in pharmacy colleges which were allotted to highly meritorious students have fallen vacant after the second round.

Officials said most of these seats were granted to students who had scored 70% and above. If these were given to students who cleared supplementary exams, it would violate merit grossly.

Self – financed colleges wanted these seats to be allocated to them for admission, so they could charge hefty fees, ranging from Rupee 2 lakh to Rupee 5 lakh.

Since this decision would have invited brickbats in an election year, the government decided that these seats be reserved for diploma students moving to degree courses, 2013 year.

It was later decided, however, that current students should be passed on the benefit and have the seats opened for admission. This would however lead to major reshuffling.
