Admission to Professional Courses stayed in Puducherry
The Madras High Court on Tuesday stayed counselling and admission to professional courses in Puducherry Union Territory till the court delivered its judgment in a writ petition challenging the provision of regional reservation for admissions.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam passed the interim order on a petition by the Federation of Puducherry Parents-Students Affected by Region-wise Reservation.
The Bench reserved judgment after hearing counsel for the parties.
It said there would be a stay with regard to counselling and admission till the pronouncement of the judgment.
The petitioner sought to declare a G.O. of 2006 of the Puducherry Government and a subsequent G.O. by information bulletin dated May 21 this year providing for regional reservation for admission to professional degree courses offered by the government-sponsored colleges in the Union Territory, as unconstitutional.
The interim prayer was to restrain the authorities from providing regional reservation over and above the permissible limits prescribed by the Supreme Court in the Mandal case for 2010-11 for professional courses.
Application Form Submission 16 Dec 2020 to 16 Jan 2021.
