Agricultural Entomology Laboratory constructed at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU)

An agricultural entomology laboratory complex, constructed at an outlay of Rs 735.09 lakh at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) here with funds from the National Horticultural Mission, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Varsity sources said equipment will be installed in the lab at a cost of Rs 14 lakh. The facility will be utilised to maintain nucleus culture of the major biocontrol agents/biopesticides.

Biocontrol pesticides, which private entrepreneurs produce, are usually of poor quality. The lab will conduct researches to improve their quality, the sources said. The facility will fulfil the needs of entrepreneurs, farmers and research scholars.

Since it has been made mandatory to register biopesticides with the Central Insecticide Board, the lab will be of great use, the sources added
