Amma to get doctorate from New York University
State University of New York, the USA, will confer an honorary doctorate in humane letters on Mata Amritanandamayi, the founder and Chancellor of Amrita Viswa Vidyapeeth, at a special function to be held in New York on May 25.
Amritanandamayi, widely known as Amma, will be the first Indian to receive the award, given in recognition of her wide – ranging humanitarian contributions all over the world.
This was announced by Stephen Dunnet, Head of International Affairs and Prof Bharath Jayaram of State University of New York, through a video – press conference held at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi.
Amrita Viswa Vidyapeeth Pro – Chancellor Abhayamrutha Chaithanya and Vice – Chancellor Dr Venkitarangan were present.
The announcement from the State University of New York described Amma “a distinguished and beloved humanitarian”.
