Andhra University VC for Sports as a Subject in Curriculum

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana on Wednesday said sports and games should be made part and parcel of the studies since they would help for overall development of students.

While participating in the valedictory meeting of physical education teachers and physical directors felt that physical education had to be made a subject in the curriculum.

He assured that he would talk to the authorities concerned during evaluation of subjects.

Fee concession

“Andhra University is encouraging students with sports background by giving 50 per cent concession in fees. There are also 10 grace marks in all subjects,” he said.

AU sports wing head M. Shyam Babu said the university was taking all the steps to promote sports and games and in all the educational institutions.

Srikakulam Physical Education Teachers and Physical Directors’ Association president K. Raja Rao and secretary M. Samba Murthy said that it was the right time to make sports as a compulsory subject in the syllabus.

“Children like to come to schools when games and sports are part of the curriculum. Dropouts will come down drastically with this step,” said Mr. Raja Rao.

National umpire for badminton Sampatarao Suribabu said release of funds from Rajiv Vidya Mission would be useful for the development of sports in all the schools in the district.
