Anna University increased student intake for hot courses

Anna University has increased the student intake at the College of Engineering, Guindy, for three courses – Electronic and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology – from the current academic year.

“It will not be merely creating additional seats but a new batch of 120 students in each course. In the morning, when one batch is attending theory classes, the other will be in the labs for the practicals.

In the afternoon, the batches will swap classrooms,” Vice Chancellor D Vishwanathan told Express. The courses have a current intake of 60 students each.

But students of the new batches will not be able to avail of hostel facilities. Viswanathan, however, said students would not be expected to share the already-cramped rooms.

The lack of hostel facility is also only temporary as the University seeks a one year time to come up with alternative options for the students and is in the process of considering many options including construction of additional hostel blocks.
