To benefit hundreds of students under the distance learning program, Anna University will set up two more satellites within a month to enable the students to learn from their houses itself, said D.Viswanathan, vice-chancellor.

Interacting with media-persons on the sidelines of the first campus recruitment drive for 2008 under the Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Program (TNSLP), here, Viswanathan said the additional satellites would support the existing ones in covering more number of students under the program. The existing two channels are used by the Anna University students and private colleges, while the additional two will be used for the distance education program alone.” he added.

Elaborating on it, the Vice-Chancellor noted that these satellites would help students in availing the service from their home itself by setting up dish antennas on their own. The university would get the two satellites from ISRO and once the satellites added to the existing ones, it would be the first of its kind in the country, he said.

This would rise the confidence of the prospective candidates before they take the actual tests: “We are working on already trials have been conducted, the results are positive.”, the educationist added.
