Exclusive College for Architecture in Kerala
A new college of architecture that offers research facilities in frontier areas like green building technology, construction management, and infrastructure planning is coming up in Vellanadu, Thiruvananthapuram.
The college will offer five-year B.Arch. course (as per AICTE norms) from the new academic year in 2011, and will be affiliated to the University of Kerala. The 18-crore campus will have an annual intake of 80 students.
The institution will be the first standalone campus that offers courses exclusively in architecture, said N. Mahesh, an architect who is also the chairman of Narayanan and Vaidyanathan Charitable and Educational Trust, promoters of the college in the self-financing sector.
The college has teamed up with the Indian Green Building Council to help students obtain necessary professional expertise in sustainable architecture, energy and environmentally sensitive architecture through theoretical and practical training.
In the second phase, the college proposes to offer e-courses in architecture and project management, providing students access to knowledge without constraints of place and time, according to Mr. Mahesh.
