Bharathiar University Colleges offers 10 free seats each for deserving students

Bharathiar University and its affiliated colleges will offer 10 free seats each for deserving students, Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said.

Candidates should be either orphans, or widows, or wards of widows, or individuals from families having income less than Rs. 2,000 a month, or from poor agricultural families.

He had earlier instructed the colleges that they should allot 20 free seats to deserving students and the counselling would be done centrally at the university.

But, now the number of seats had been reduced to 10.

1,000 students

“This way 1,000 students will be accommodated. The minimum number of seats in this category will be 10 a college. Extra seats will be at the discretion of the college.

From this academic year students will be made to pay the examination fee,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Students will have to apply with the mark sheet to the respective college within a week of its receipt.

Colleges could decide on the selection based on the eligible criteria.

Mr. Thiruvasagam has requested the colleges to provide everything free to the students.

“Except the examination fee nothing should be collected from them.”

Committee

A committee would visit the colleges that have conducted counselling and selected candidates.

The committee would check the credentials of the candidates.
