Bharathiar University enters e-Governance System

Bharathiar University entered into the e-governance mode of administration. R.P. Kaushik, Convenor of the University Grants Commission team that is visiting the university, inaugurated the Local Networking System that would link the whole university here on Friday.

Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said the system was implemented at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh.

“The functioning of all the offices and departments of the university can be monitored by the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar from their respective desks. All correspondence will be over E-mail and not letters.

“Students will also be able to use the Internet 24 hours with the help of broadband connection that has an exclusive lease line for the university,” he told a press conference.

Mr. Kaushik also inaugurated the Biometric Attendance System to be used by teaching and non-teaching staff.

The everyday attendance would be taken care by the machine. The university planned to install 45 such machines in all the offices and departments of the university.

A video conferencing facility that would link the university to all its affiliated colleges was also inaugurated.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, many colleges did not have qualified staff for some specialised subjects.

Whenever there was a faculty visiting the university, a guest lecture by them could be heard and seen by students in any of the affiliated colleges of the university through the conferencing facility.

The colleges had been instructed by the Vice-Chancellor to install a similar facility at the cost of Rs. 1.25 lakh to be connected with the university.
