Bharathiar University reintroduce Semester System in B.Ed Colleges

The Bharathiar University (BU) has decided to reintroduce semester system in B.Ed colleges with a view to eliminating the difficulties the colleges face after the introduction of non-semester system last year.

Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. G Thiruvasagam said after the scrapping of semester system, the B.Ed colleges could not maintain the 180-day working period due to late admissions.

Though they conducted classes on Saturdays and Sundays, they could not maintain attendance. In the semester system, they need to cover 90 days in each semester, he said.

The varsity has relaxed the eligibility for Ph.D guideship from the coming academic year.

Earlier, it was mandatory that those who qualify for guideship should wait for three years after taking Ph.D. And they should have also published articles in international journals before and after taking Ph.D.

Since it was found difficult to follow this rule in certain cases, the varsity has decided to relax the rule. Now one year is enough for guideship apart from publishing an article within three years after taking Ph.D.

The varsity has also relaxed the percentage of marks for candidates to take up research to 50.
