All Fees Payable to University Raised by 25 per cent BU

Starting academic year 2013 – 14, Bharathiar University has increased the fee payable by all affiliated colleges to the university by 25 per cent.

In a circular dated 17th May, 2013, the Registrar of Bharathiar University has informed all colleges affiliated to the university that “All the fees payable to the university by colleges have been enhanced by 25 per cent from the academic year 2013 – 14 onwards”.

This is applicable to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The circular has come with an annexure on the break up of the fee particulars under various parameters with the existing rate and the corresponding increase.

Colleges are not happy over this “sudden and exorbitant increase”. They have calculated an approximate Rupee 210 increase over the existing fee for a student.

A course fee paid by a student is divided into three parts – one payable to the Government ( which is not applicable in the case of Government / aided colleges ), the second part payable to the university, and the third part payable to the college. The enhancement falls in the second category.

C. James Pitchai, Vice – Chancellor of Bharathiar University, says that the university has not enhanced the fee for the last four years. “There is a provision that the university can enhance the fee every year by 10 per cent. Since this was not done for the last few years, we have enhanced it by 25 per cent after a resolution passed by the Syndicate”.

Principles of colleges say that 25 per cent hike is very high and is a burden on the students as well as the institutions. With most of the colleges having completed provisional admissions with students having paid the earlier fee, they say it will be difficult to make do the difference now. Some even say that the university had enhanced the fee once within the last four years.

Students of Government Arts College paid the university fee of Rupee 830 as against Rupee 580 last year. With the recent increase of Rupee 210, students will have to pay Rupee 1,040 this year. This is an example of the financial burden that will be borne by the students. While this is the case with a Government college, the financial burden on students studying in self – financing colleges is anyone’s guess.

But Mr. Pitchai says that there is not going to be any financial burden on students because the amount has to be paid by the colleges to the university. However, principals say that the money to be paid to the university by them has to come only from students.

Also, the annexure to the circular mentions “Revision of fees payable by the candidate at the time of admission in UG / PG degree courses from the academic year 2013 – 14”. The ‘candidate’ here clearly means the student of the college, a college principal points out.



Workshop at BU

The Departments of Sociology and Population Studies, and Extension and Career Guidance, of Bharathiar University, will organise a four – day workshop on “Social Science Research Methodology and Use of SPSS Software Package for Database Management and Analysis” from 6th May, 2013 to 9th May, 2013 at the university.

The workshop will be useful for M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars and also college / university teachers pursuing research analysing secondary / survey data in social sciences including commerce and business management / agricultural sciences, education, engineering and nursing.

Universities Tie Up News

Universities Tie Up for Academic Technical Collaboration

Bharathiar University and National Taiwan Ocean University ( NTOU ) have entered into a memorandum of understanding for academic and technical collaboration between them.

The MoU was signed between G. James Pitchai, Vice – Chancellor of Bharathiar University, and Ching – Fong Chang, President of NTOU, during the former’s visit to Taiwan recently, according to release.

The areas that will come into the purview of the MoU are exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students ( twinning programmes ), sponsorship of international workshops and seminars of mutual interest, cooperation in joint technical assisted activities, promote academic chairs to enhance mutual culture between India and Taiwan, and establish School of Distance Education Study Centre of Bharathiar University at NTOU.


UG Redesigning Courses

MoU inked for Redesigning Under Graduate Commerce Courses

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Tata Consultancy Services – Business Process Outsourcing and four affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University here on Tuesday to help the colleges design two undergraduate programmes in commerce and business management, with a focus on business process.

The name of the course is BBA Business Process Management. TCS – BPO is also designing a B.Com. in Business Process Systems. It will provide curriculum, teaching – learning material, student assessment tools, and placement assistance for students, who undergo this course.

According to M. Jayakumar, Director, Department of Extension and Career Guidance, Bharathiar University, though one – third of the curriculum of the courses was re-designed with the help of the TCS Management Team, no compromise was made in covering the fundamentals.

Papers in accounting, banking service, supply chain management, market research, capital market and insurance, were designed in the context of business process service.

A 90 – hour course on campus to corporate was also being made compulsory for all the students. A draft syllabus was ready for due approval by the statutory bodies.

New concepts such as six sigma, international financial regulatory systems, accounting, standards of the U.S., Europe, hedge funds, sales force automation, and lean management, would be introduced.

Teaching methods would include simulation exercises, hands – on experience, and case studies. Business process managers of TCS would visit colleges to teach a few subjects and also train the faculty.


BU SDE Results 2013 Decalred

SDE Results of BU Published 2012 2013

The results of the December 2012 examinations of the School of Distance Education of Bharathiar University were published on 21st March, 2013.

According to an official release, the results of all undergraduate, post – graduate, MBA, executive MBA, MCA, B.Ed., diploma and PG diploma courses, will be hosted on the websites www.b-u.ac.in and www.kalvimalar.com.

Students can access their results and marks from the above websites. All candidates, except diploma / PG diploma, are eligible to apply for revaluation and re – totalling. The application for re – totalling / revaluation can be downloaded from the university website.

Last date for receipt of filled – in applications is 28th March, 2013.

Students can visit the websites to access their results and marks. The last date for applying for revaluation and re – totalling is 8th February, 2013.

PG Results of BU Announced Dates 2013

The results of the November / December 2012 examinations of all post – graduate courses of affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University will be published on 31st January, 2013.

Candidates can access www.b-u.ac.in and www.kalvimalar.com for the results after 10 a.m., according to press release issued from the University.

The last date for applying for revaluation and retotalling is 11th February, 2013, the press release adds.


BU PG Exams Postponed

Postgraduate Examinations of BU postponed 2012

The December examinations for students of all postgraduate courses and MBA, with the exception of MCA, studying in the School of Distance Education of Bharathiar University, have been postponed.

According to a release, the examinations for all PG courses have been postponed to 26th December, 2012 instead of the scheduled date of 23rd December, 2012.

The MBA examinations, scheduled for 23rd December, 2012 have been postponed to 1st January, 2013, and similarly the examination scheduled for 30th December, 2012 has been postponed to 5th January, 2013.


SET Keys Released

Bharathiar University Keys of SET released on the Web

The keys of the State Eligibility Test ( SET ) conducted by Bharathiar University on 7th October, 2012, have been released on the Web.

According to a release from K.G. Senthilvasan, Secretary, SET, as many as 51,000 candidates attended the examination in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The keys of Paper I, II and III for all subjects are available on the university website www.b-u.ac.in

MPhil & PhD Admission

Bharathiar University Admission 2016

This application is meant only for regular M.Phil./Ph.D. ( Full-Time / Part-Time ) programmes for the academic year 2016-2017 offered in the Bharathiar University Departments / Affiliated Colleges and Recognized Research Institutions.

Bharathiar University MPhil Phd Admission Eligibility 2016 :

Candidates having minimum 55% ( for SC / ST Candidates the minimum eligibility is 50 % ) marks ( without rounding off ) in Master’s degree are eligible to appear for CET 2016.

Eligibility for M.Phil :

Candidates with Master’s degree of Bharathiar University in the concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate of Bharathiar University.

All candidates should have passed a two-year PG degree course after 3-year Bachelor’s degree course and Higher Secondary course of 2-year duration after 10-year SSLC ( 10 +2 +3 +2 ) or one year Predegree after 11-year SSLC ( 11 +1 +3 +2 ) or 10-year SSLC plus 3-year Diploma plus two year UG degree and two year PG (10+3+2+2) or four year UG degree and one year masters degree ( 10 +2 +4 +1 ). Candidates who have passed the PG degree examination with less than 17 years of total duration of study are not eligible for admission to M.Phil. programme.

Duration :

  • The duration of M.Phil. full time programme shall extend over a period of one year ( 12 months ) commencing from 1st November.
  • The duration of M.Phil. part-time programme shall extend over a period of two years (24 months) commencing from 1st November.

Eligibility for PhD :

The candidates should have passed a PG degree course ( i.e., SSLC +HSC +UG +PG ) or ( SSLC +Pre-degree +1 +UG +PG ) or 10-year SSLC plus 3-year Diploma plus two year UG degree and two year PG (10+3+2+2) or four year UG degree and one year masters degree (10+2+4+1). So a candidate possessing a PG degree with 17 years of total duration of study alone is eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for Ph.D. ( Full-Time / Part Time ) programme

Duration :

A candidate registered as a full-time scholar for Ph.D. program must possess the qualifications and shall work continuously in the Department under the supervisor for a minimum period of THREE YEARS from the date of registration recognized to submit the thesis.

A candidate registered for Ph.D. program under part-time category must possess any one of the qualifications and must work for a minimum period of FOUR YEARS from the date of registration recognized to submit the thesis.

Bharathiar University Admission Application Form 2015 :

  • Candidates desirous of obtaining admission into the PG Degree / PG diploma courses offered in the University Departments should apply for the same in the prescribed application form which are available in the Bharathiar University, at a cost of Rupee 300/- to be remitted by a Bank of India Challan ( into the Genral fund Account of Bharathiar University ) or a demand draft of any Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of the Registrar, Bharathiar University payable at Coimbatore.
  • SC/ST candidates have to pay only Rupee 150/-provided they produce an attested Photo copy of his / her community certificate along with the request for application. The candidates shall send a self addressed envelope (28 x 13 cms) affixing Rupee 6O/- stamp along with a request.
  • Applicants can also download the application form from the web site www.b-u.ac.in and submit the filled in application along with a DD for Rupee 300/- as Registration fee ( Rupee 150 /- for SC / ST candidates ) by means of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Registrar, Bharathiar University payable at Coimbatore.
  • The application form and the hall-ticket, shall be completed in all respects and sent to Professor and Head, Department of …………… Bharathiar University Coimbatore – 641 046 on or before 15th May, 2015. The applications shall not be sent to the Registrar.
  • Students can apply for various courses through online also. However fee in this regard will be accepted only through Bank draft or Bank of lndia challan as indicated above.

Bharathiar University Selection Procedure 2015 :  

Selection Procedure for admission by Entrance Test : 

The Bharathiar University selection will be based on the marks scored by the candidates in the entrance test and the average of Marks secured by them upto 5th Semester/ ll year of their UG degree course of study. For other courses direct admissions are planned.
The weightage will be as follows:

I.   Entrance Test                                                     60 marks
II. UG Course of study ( upto V Sem. / ll year ) 40 marks
100 marks
Bharathiar University Exam Pattern 2015 :

The question paper for the Bharathiar university entrance test shall consist of 60 objective type questions giving 4 choices to choose among, carrying 1 (one) mark each and the duration of the test will be 90 minutes.

Bharathiar University Hall Ticket 2015 :

Bharathiar University Hall- tickets containing the date, time and venue of the entrance test will be sent to the candidates by the respective HODs by certificate of postings so as to reach the candidates atleast 5 days before the date of entrance test. Candidates who do not receive the hall-tickets in time may contact the respective HODs and obtain the same.
