Retirement Age of Bihar University Teachers raised
The Patna High Court on Friday ruled in favour of raising retirement age of teachers in colleges and universities from 62 to 65 years in conformity with the recommendations of United Grants Commission (UGC).
A single bench of Justice Navniti Prasad Singh passed the order while hearing a batch of writ applications filed by aggrieved lecturers, seeking enhancement in the retirement age as per the UGC recommendations.
Justice Singh ruled that the order would take effect from 30th June, 2010, and those who retired from that day would get re-employment with consequential benefits in the State.
However, the benefit would not apply to those who had retired before the mentioned date.
The State Government had in principle decided to raise the retirement age limit from 62 years to 65 years.
