BPO Training for Unemployed

A 90 – day BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) training programme being offered with the technical support of Accenture, a global management consulting, technology consulting and outsourcing firm, was launched at Madurai on 28th March, 2011.

Being offered by VAPS in collaboration with NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) Foundation, the course would be offered for men and women having cleared Standard XII and in the age group between 18 and 30 years.

Besides Madurai, the course would also be conducted at Virudhunagar.

NASSCOM Foundation is the social development arm of NASSCOM, the internationally recognised trade body of the Indian IT – BPO industry. It aims to channelise the potential of the IT – BPO industry towards inclusive development of India.

According to VAPS Secretary S.A. Arul, the course would cover personality development, voice and non – voice BPO training, life skills, functional English, listening skills, basic computer skills and how to browse the Internet. The master trainers of the programme were trained at Hyderabad.

Regional Director of NASSCOM from Chennai, K. Purushothaman, who inaugurated the programme, told the students the association was working for making the country as a premier event for IT industry.

More than 3.5 lakh people were employment in the IT industry in Tamil Nadu alone. Service sector which included BPO accounted for 40 per cent of the revenues garnered in the sector and also saw a growth of 40 per cent.

The huge growth of other industries in India had led to a growing need for managing the customers, which was done by the young graduates in BPO sector.

Form Chennai, the IT industry was moving to tier – II cities such as Tirunelveli and Tiruchi to utilise the manpower in those areas. Many companies had evinced interest in Madurai also, he added.

R. Sivarajah, convenor of ICT Panel, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Madurai Zone, urged the students to fully utilise the programme and the resources it offered. P. Subramanian, Technical Consultant, VAPS, spoke.
