Applications invited for Young Achiever Award

Applications have been invited by the Brigade Group and Rotary Bangalore Midtown for the 6th annual Young Achiever Award from youngsters who have proof of demonstrable achievement.

The state award will recognise and honour outstanding achievements of youth with a cash prize of [rupee] 1 lakh, trophy and citation.

Those aged between 16 and 28 are eligible to apply before September 28, 2011. Young achievers who are not likely to apply on their own may be nominated. Details are on

Instituted in 2006, the award has been conferred on swimmers Shikha Tandon, Rehan Poncha and Aaron D’Souza, musician Manasi Prasad, tennis star Rohan Bopanna, badminton player Anup Sridhar, documentary filmmaker Pavitra Chalam, jockey Suraj Narredu and professional shooter Rakesh Manpat.

Besides, it has been conferred on Team Ashwa for fabricating India’s first race car prototype; Team Garuda for successfully creating India’s first supermileage car that runs for 180 km on a litre of petrol; Achala Pani, founder of Lets’ Live Together, an animal protection organisation, and Pavithra Y.S., Founder of Vindhya E – Informedia, a BPO that employs over 200 people, with 95 per cent of them being persons with disabilities.
