Basic sciences should be given importance along with engineering and medicine because improvement of basic sciences will lead to social change, said V. Alagappan, Registrar in – charge, Madurai Kamaraj University.

He was inaugurating a 20 – day Young Students Scientist Programme (YSSP – 2011) at Cardamom Planters’ Association College in Bodinayakanur, Theni recently.

The country has the largest population in 25 – 40 age group in the world. “If we utilise their potential properly, our country will grow quickly. Students of basic sciences usually had critical thinking and innovative thought.

Main objective of the programme was to attract intelligent students for the basic sciences. Madurai Kamaraj University was ready to extend their helping hand to those colleges encouraging rural students towards basic sciences.”

“Students should effectively interact with professors to clarify their doubts,” he added

College Principal in – charge M. Rajarajan said that TamilNadu State Council for Science and Technology had granted 2.20 lakh for this programme.
