Cauvery College Students shine
Two students of Cauvery College for Women in Trichy, brought laurels to the institution by winning the first and second prizes in the A.D. Shroff memorial annual oratorical competition conducted by the Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai in association with the Tiruchi District Chamber of Commerce at Cauvery College for Women here recently.
K. Rangarajan, secretary of the Tiruchi District Chamber of Commerce and also secretary of Cauvery College for Women, who inaugurated the competition, said that the chamber had been conducting the competition every year and pointed out this was the 46th competition.
Mr Rangarajan explained in detail about the objectives of the Forum of Free Enterprise, a non-political and non-partisan organisation established in 1956 to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and its close relationship with the democratic way of life.
The Forum seeks to stimulate public thinking on vital economic problems of the day through booklets and leaflets, meetings, essay competitions and other means as befit a democratic society.
A.D. Shroff took up the task of establishing the Forum under challenging circumstances.
V. Sujatha, principal of Cauvery College for Women, Senthilkumar, auditor, Ilangovan, former Rotary District Governor and Vasantha, former professor of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, were the juries for the competition.
In all, 25 students (both boys and girls) from various colleges took part in the competition.
A.J. Rubina Amrin and S. Pavithra, students of Cauvery College for Women bagged the first and second prizes of 1,250 and 1,000 respectively.
C.R. Achuthan of Srimad Andavan College, Tiruchi, won the third prize of 750. M. Karthika of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College and V. Nimai Srinivasan of National College were given consolation prizes.
All the winners were given certificates.
