CENTAC Counselling for Medicine from 12th July, 2012

The first phase of Centralised Admissions Committee ( CENTAC ) counselling for medical courses will be held from 12th July, 2012 to 14th July, 2012, followed by the first phase of counselling for engineering courses, which will take place from 18th July, 2012 to 27th July, 2012, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said.

Counselling for lateral entry courses will be held on 9th July, 2012 and 10th July, 2012, followed by counselling for special categories ( sports, physically challenged, ex – servicemen and freedom fighter quotas ) on 11th July, 2012, he said while releasing the CENTAC merit list Puducherry on 1st July, 2012

Kavitha Girish from Kannur topped the merit list for biology – based degree courses, while R. Ramakrishnan from Koodapakkam came second and D. Thamizharasan from Abishegapakkam, third.

For engineering degree courses, A. Sneha Michaelin Annie from Romain Rolland Street came first, while S. Ashvant Ram from Periyar Nagar and N. Arjun Lokesh from Rainbow Nagar came second and third respectively.

CENTAC Second Phase of Counselling begins from September 6, 2011.

The second phase of counselling for engineering and biology based courses through the Centralised Admissions Committee will begin on September 6, 2011, according to a release.

First Phase of CENTAC Counselling Ends

The first phase of CENTAC counselling for admissions to the 46 colleges through the Centralised Admissions Committee to biology-based courses, engineering courses and B. Pharmacy ended on 5th August, 2011.

At the end of the first phase, a total of 200 seats were left vacant in the three streams. Most of the vacancies were in the Scheduled Tribe and Backward Tribe categories, with 192 vacant seats in engineering, seven vacant seats for biology – based courses and one vacant seat for B. Pharmacy course.

During the first phase of CENTAC counselling, 167 candidates gave up their seats in biology – based courses to take up engineering.

The second phase of CENTAC counselling is due to start in the first week of September.

An official from CENTAC said they were in the process of consolidating the vacancies for the second phase of CENTAC counselling. They would take into consideration vacancies that appeared during counselling, seats not filled by the college, biology-based seats that were surrendered for engineering and seats of candidates who failed to join the course, the official said.

The CENTAC second phase could also include management quota seats that were surrendered by the colleges, the official said. These seats would be released only after government approval. Students opting for these seats would not be eligible for financial aid from the government, the official said.

During the final phase of CENTAC counselling, any remaining vacancies in the reserved quotas , would be normalised and converted into general quota seats. The final phase of counselling is currently scheduled for the end of September, with 30th September, 2011 being the last date to complete the admission procedure, according to the official.

645 seats available for engineering counselling

The CENTAC has tentatively announced that 645 seats will be available for the second phase of engineering counselling. The numbers are subject to change after the second phase of biology counselling, according to a release.

There are a total of 49 seats available in government engineering colleges – Pondicherry Engineering College and Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Karaikal. Of these, 22 seats are for other State candidates. PEC has not yet provided five seats through the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the release said.

At private colleges, there are 273 seats available in Puducherry, 208 in Karaikal and 137 in Yanam.  CENTAC convener P. Jayakumar said the dates for the counselling would only be announced after September 2 once the All India medical seat quota is filled
