Class X, XII Exam duration extended by 10 minutes

Nearly 16 lakh students appearing for the class X and XII State Board examinations commencing in March have a reason to smile. The duration of their examinations has been extended by ten minutes.

The initiative is aimed at helping students to go through the question paper in a relaxed manner and plan the order they need to follow while attempting the paper.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said for class XII students it would mean having ten extra minutes on hand before the three-hour writing session.

Class X students in the SSLC, Matriculation, Anglo Indian and OSLC streams, would get Idea is to give students extra time to go through the question paper ten minutes in addition to their two-and-a-half hours.

“The additional time will allow students to calm down and then start writing. For class XII students, whose marks will determine their admission to engineering and medical colleges, the ten minutes will be a boon,” Mr. Thennarasu said.

The question papers will be distributed in advance, while the answer scripts will be given only when the exam is scheduled to begin. The School Education Department is gearing up to have computer-aided English language laboratory in schools.
