College Teachers want Retirement Age increased

The Joint Action Council of College Teachers – Tamil Nadu (JAC) held a demonstration in front of the Chennai Collectorate on 5th August, 2010 demanding that the Tamil Nadu government increase the retirement age to 65 years.

The demonstration was in support of an eight-point charter of demands including implementation of the State VI Pay Commission for non-teaching staff in aided colleges with monetary effect from 2006 and UGC payscales to college and university teachers.

Other demands were related to the payment of pension and allowances and the filling up of non-teaching staff vacancies.

K.G. Palani, president, Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA) presided over the demonstration.
