Coming, Reality Show on Education

The educational achievements of government and aided schools in the State across a range of parameters will soon be packaged as reality shows — modelled on the popular Green Kerala Express programme — under a project drawn up by IT@School.

Hundred episodes of these ‘educational reality shows’ will be aired on the VICTERS channel from November. Each three-segment episode of the reality show will be of 40-45 minutes involving the students and teachers of Class I to X of a school.

The first segment will be a profile of the school, the second, a short video of the school’s activities prepared by IT@School. In the third segment, teachers and students of the school will present their achievements before a five-member jury.

The achievements that can be showcased include pedagogical innovations, ICT-based education, infrastructure, best teaching practices, peer teaching, green endeavours, links with society, physical fitness programmes, inclusive education, agricultural initiatives and sanitation and cleanliness. These achievements can be presented with the help of videos or any other forms of communication.

The IT@School will also set up a Web portal, which will provide up-to-date information on schools in the State complete with multimedia content. “We intend this to be an extension of the School Wiki portal that is a hit in schools,” executive director of IT@School Anvar Sadath told. The video content generated by the C-DIT for the reality shows will be given to schools as part of the ‘Free Digital Library’ project.

To participate, a school has to produce a short video of its innovations and activities and send it to the IT@School. From these entries, 100 schools will be selected. The focus of the programme will not be the individual performances of students or teachers but a collective effort of a school community.

At the show, the overall performance of a school in at least three of the 15 parameters identified by IT@School will be judged. The segments familiarising a school to the audience and the jury of the reality show will be shot in a travelogue mode.

The eligibility and evaluation criteria, along with details of the prizes, will be notified this month.
