Engineering Graduates to prepare for Jobs in Core Engineering Sectors

Engineering graduates will have to prepare for jobs in core engineering sectors as the slowdown – hit IT sector might be recruiting fewer candidates when they launch campus hiring in January, P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice – Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai said.

He launched the third orientation program for engineering college principals on a course in mobile communications organised by the University and BSNL.

It would equip final year engineering graduates with skill sets suited for jobs in telecommunications would be provided free of cost.

The University had earmarked Rs.2 crore for providing free training to an estimated 5,000 candidates, he said.

The Vice – Chancellor directed engineering college principals to nominate 25 students each for the course, which included five days of telecom technology orientation and two days of employability training.

D. Varadarajan, Chief General Manager, BSNL Tamil Nadu Circle said the course reflected the formalisation of the short – term training provided to students. S. Shanmugasundraman, BSNL Principal General Manager (Operations), and S. Selvam, Director, Centre for University – Industry Collaboration, participated.
