Expert seeks multi-pronged approach to tackle software piracy
Software piracy is a big menace and the Microsoft Corporation is taking constant efforts to address this issue through a multi-pronged approach of education, engineering and enforcement, according to Microsoft India Chairman Ravi Venkatesan.
He that the company is doing campaigns to educate the consumers about the consequences and ill-effects of piracy. “We tell them that sales of pirated software versions are violation of law and moreover, the pirated packages are more vulnerable to the virus attacks than the genuine ones.”
Another step being taken by the Microsoft to curb piracy is to make its range of products available at affordable costs at the consumers end. Constant technology innovation, according to him, is also being adopted by the company to tackle piracy.
“For this, products are offered on ‘paid platforms’ like in the case of mobile phones so that usage will be dependent on the genuine copy of the software,” he said.
Mr. Venkatesan said that Microsoft plans to extend the online-hosted enterprise solutions introduced in the Tirupur knitwear cluster on December 16 to ten more Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) clusters across the country before the end of this fiscal.
It includes leather, pharmaceutical, automobile and gems and jewellery clusters.
