Five per cent Extra Rebate on Handloom Goods

“College students will get five per cent extra rebate on handloom goods, if they purchase it from Cooptex. The scheme will be launched from Monday,” said the Handloom Minister, N.K.K.P. Raja, on Saturday while participating in the valedictory of the ‘Kaitharikku Kai Koduppom’ scheme organised by the NSS unit of Kongu Arts and Science College, Nanjanapuram, Erode.

Already in Tamil Nadu, 20 per cent rebate was provided for handloom goods round the year and during the festival season and birth anniversary of leaders, extra 10 per cent rebate was provided for the products.

He said products worth about Rs. 1 crore were sold in Erode, Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts by the NSS volunteers, which was an achievement.

Apart from 20 per cent usual rebate, five per cent extra discount would be given to college students, if they submit identity card as proof. The rebate provided to students would be extended to mediapersons.

The Minister said as a pilot project, the handloom sales carried out by the NSS volunteers of Bharathiar University, had proved to be a success, and would be extended to other universities. The Kamaraj University in Madurai will launch the scheme shortly.

The Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, G. Thiruvasagam, said Kanagaraj, a final year graduate of the Kongu Arts and Science College, has sold items worth Rs 1.50 lakh. He would be given free education when he does post-graduation next year.
