Good Shepherd International School students getting ready to attend space camp in the U.S.

Excitement is mounting at the Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) at Muthorai Palada, near here, where 38 students are getting ready to fly to Huntsville in the United States of America to participate in a space camp.

The camp will be conducted between May 23 and May 30 by the United States Space and Rocket Centre, the official Visitor Centre of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The camp will impart realistic and interactive astronaut training including a space travel simulation.

Established in 1965 by the State of Alabama, the Centre is a leading space science museum which has since 1982 been familiarising students from various parts of the world with various aspects of space missions.

Students from various schools in India had been participating in such programmes in large numbers in recent years, the Founder-Principal, GSIS, P.C.Thomas, told The Hindu here on Tuesday.

This year the Good Shepherd students would form a significant part of the Indian contingent.

They would participate in a range of exhilarating activities which would enhance their knowledge.

Who knows, it may even kindle interest in space travel among some of them, he added.
