Government SC/ST Employees Welfare Association conducted Marathon Speech Protest

Dalit and tribal activists representing several organisations and outfits teaming up with the Government SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, the Tamil Nadu SC and ST Welfare Department Teachers/Wardens Association on Friday conducted a marathon speech protest here demanding withdrawal of the new norms for availing scholarship for SC & ST Students by the Central Ministry of Social Justice.

Activists said the government thought that if they were prevented from pursuing higher education, they would become semi literates and end up as subordinate class.

One of the practical examples was the new norm for availing scholarship for college education according to which Students who scored over 60 percentage of marks in Plus Two examinations would be eligible for college scholarships, they said.

The organisations represented in the protest were Republican Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Puratchi Baratham, Bahujan Samaj Party, All India BSNL SC & ST Welfare Association, Ambedkar Makkal Munetra Kazhagam, Ambedkar Peravai, Dalit Peoples’ Front.
