IIST at Schools from February 7

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) will conduct its science outreach programme for school students called IIST@Schools at the ATF area on the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) campus at Veli in Trivandrum here from February 7, 2011 to February 9, 2011.

The IIST has been set up under the Department of Space of the Union government as a centre of excellence in the area of advanced space science and technology.

Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan and former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair had taken part in IIST@Schools 2010.

This year, the theme of the programme is ‘Science and Technology for the future of mankind.’ Mr. Madhavan Nair will inaugurate the programme at 8.30 a.m. on February 7, 2011.

Apart from talks by scientists and teachers, the programme will have sessions such as sky watch, visit to planetarium, rocket launch at VSSC, demonstrations on scientific experiments, quiz and essay competitions.
