Kashmir University launches Master Program in Travel and Hospitality

Kashmir University ( KU ) has introduced a Masters program in Travel and Hospitality to produce skilled professionals for the tourism industry. Jammu & Kashmir has been a favourite hot spot for the tourists and KU’s initiative will make its tourism industry one of the largest recruiters.

Despite of having great potential, Kashmir could not do much in tourism due to lack of skilled professionals. The new program aims at bridging this gap and creating skilled professionals for the tourism industry.

The university was planning to launch this course since past 3 years. It was made possible only after J & K registered a record number of tourists for the second consecutive year at 1.2 million in 2011, the ever highest since 1987 and is expected to go beyond 1.6 million this year.

Till date, tourism was restricted only to Pahalgam, Srinagar and Gulmarg. But now it is expanding. The masters program would also contribute in streamlining tourism policy which is at present devised by non – professionals.

In the meantime, university has also introduced another 2 – year course – Masters in Craft Management and Entrepreneurship, the first of its kind of course in India.
