KSWDC Career Guidance Programme for Higher Secondary Students

For all those Plus Two students who feel confused about choosing the right courses and careers ahead, the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation ( KSWDC ) is ready to extend a helping hand.

It has come up with a career guidance programme for higher secondary students aimed at instilling confidence among the youngsters on how to select the best course and career in the future.

P. T. M. Sunish, managing director of KSWDC, said that a majority of students leave school with only a vague knowledge of employment opportunities and with little insight to the most appropriate career direction for their abilities, interest and personality.

“This leads to low morale, disinterest and de-motivation, translating into poor performance and bad service levels even if placed somewhere.

The Kerala scenario clearly shows that parents are the decision makers when it comes to selection of the career path of students,” he said.

Session

Mr. Sunish said that KSWDC will conduct a career guidance session for the Plus Two students of seven districts covering about 100 girls only higher secondary schools in the initial phase. He said that the Director of Public Instruction will select the schools.

“We hope that about 4,000 students will get the benefit of the project.

Parents will also be invited to attend this considering their role while selecting a course for their children”, he said.

Experts will participate in a three hour workshop focusing on all new generation careers and the way to chart out a successful higher education programme.

This will also include details of all entrance and scholarship examinations that the students can undertake.

Each branch of study will be explained to the students. Mr. Sunish said that educating parents and children about all the courses available will help them in selecting the right career and course.

Majority of the children do not get such a chance to understand the world around them that results in selecting the traditional courses or the most heard of courses.
