Training Programme on ‘Seabass farming’

A one-day free training programme on ‘Seabass farming’ has been organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK ) from 9 a.m. on August 30, 2011 Tuesday. Participants will be trained on the varieties of pond fish, breeding, feed and water management and protecting them from diseases and availability of technology to monitor their growth. Interested persons should enroll at the Kendra over phone at 04286-266345, 266244 or 266650 before August 29, 2011.  Monday evening.

Training Programme on ‘Precision Farming’

A special two-day training programme on ‘precision farming’ under National Agriculture Development Programme ( NADP ) was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK ), Sandhiyur, near here recently.

Inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University ( TNAU ) Vice-Chancellor P.Murugesa Boopathi, the training programme was one of the special programmes under NADP for the year 2010-11 to cover 4,000 hectares under agriculture and 8,500 hectares under horticulture to be implemented during 2010-11 in Tamil Nadu.

Under the scheme, training would be given in nine centres of which Salem KVK is one.

At Salem KVK about 450 hectares under agriculture and 950 hectares under horticulture would cover 1,400 beneficiaries from Salem, Namakkal and Coimbatore districts.

Classes on drip fertigation and maintenance, soil fertility and management, cultivation practices for agriculture and horticulture crops, pest and disease management were given by scientists on the first day.

Visits to fields

Exposure visit to precision farming fields at Sathapadi, Attur and commercial protray nursery at Manjini were also undertaken.

This is a continuous programme which will be conducted in 28 batches of 50 farmers in each batch.

The programme was organized by scientists Dr.P.S.Kavitha ( Horticulture ) and Dr.M.A.Venila ( Agriculture Extension ), KVK Sandhiyur.

Programme coordinator S.Manickam, KVK, Sandhiyur, welcomed the gathering and explained about precision farming training.

In his presidential address, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of precision farming, protray nursery, sustainable sugarcane initiative ( SSI ) in sugarcane, formation of commodity groups, value addition and processing.

P.Kalaiselvan, Director of Extension Education, TNAU, Coimbatore, reiterated that farmers should adopt the latest technologies from the university, so as to fetch high market price for their produce.

V.Vijaya Kumar, Joint Director of Agriculture, Salem; V.Rajendran, Professor and Head, ( TC & RS ), Yethapur; G.Udayakumar, DDA, Salem and Mohan Vijaya Kumar, ADH Namagiripettai, also participated.

About 100 beneficiaries of Namagiripettai block, Namakkal district, participated and benefited.
