Laptops for Plus II Toppers of the 27 Cor-poration Higher Secondary Schools

Laptops, cash and all-expense paid tours — it has never been so good for students and faculty at the various Corporation schools in the city.

Giving special focus to education in his budget, city Mayor M Subramanian said that the Plus II toppers of the 27 Cor-poration Higher Secondary schools will receive a laptop each as a reward for good performance in the future.

Students of Standard X, who have scored above 400 marks in board examinations would be given Rs.1, 000, while Plus Two students scoring above the 1000 mark would be given an identical cash award. This apart, Rs.500 would be given to students scoring centum in individual subjects, announced the Mayor, amid loud thumping of desks by the councillors.

These rewards are not exclusive to students. Recognizing the hard work put in by the teachers and heads of the institutions, the Corporation would reward the teaching staff members for the impressive results the students bring.

Heads of the institutions would receive Rs.5, 000, Rs.3, 000 and Rs.2, 000, respectively; as cash prizes if students of the school secure the first three places in the Class X and Plus Two board examinations. They will also receive Rs.1, 000 if their schools are able to register a pass percentage of 90. Students who score above 95 per cent in each subject would also fetch Rs.500 for the teachers of that subject, said Subramanian.

Besides these measures, educational tours would be arranged for the top 25 students of Class X, provided they continue their Plus Two education at a Corporation school itself.
