Creation of Knowledge Based Society Essential to face Challenges
Greater emphasis should be laid on providing access to primary and higher education to people from all sections in the society, Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan said.
Delivering the Graduation Day address at the Maharaja Co-education Arts and Science College here on Saturday, the Vice-Chancellor said that the creation of knowledge-based society was essential to face the challenges in the globalised environment.
The country had witnessed tremendous growth in the education sector.
But, still more efforts should be taken to enable people from all sections of the society to get easy access to primary and higher education in the country. The private organisations should join hands with the government in this task, he said.
Stating that the competition in every sector had become intense, he said that the students should be well prepared to face the challenges posed by the globalised economy.
Mr. Swaminathan called upon the students to contribute their efforts for the protection and conservation of the environment. Rapid urbanisation and industrialisation had led to heavy pollution in the country. Students should apply their knowledge to bring in solutions to various environmental issues, he stressed.
Later, he presented degree certificates to 460 candidates who graduated from Maharaja Co-education Arts and Science College and Maharaja College of Education. Gold medals were presented to the university rank holders.
College Chairman K. Paramasivam presided.
