MCFIAM offers One Year Program in Arts Management

The Madras Craft Foundation Institute of Arts Management (MCFIAM), run by the Madras Craft Foundation, is offering a one-year programme in Arts Management. Persons with a B.A or B.Sc. degree are eligible for the course.

The MCFIAM Internship is aimed at offering students an opportunity to learn in-depth about the history, social, economic and political position of the arts in India as well as skills in management, communication, graphics, documentation, video techniques and fieldwork.

Group and individual projects form a key role in hands-on development of skills. It is a course geared to fulfil the increasing demand and opportunities for persons with a background in the arts, who are also trained in management and communication skills.

Course content

The course content draws upon different disciplines such as Cultural Studies, Appreciation of Western and Indian Art, Art Design, Museum Studies, Exhibition Design, Videography, Computer Graphics, Media and Communication and Principles of Management The course includes both group and individual projects.

This year students were involved in a four-week ‘International Workshop on Fieldwork and Archival Training7, with Wurzburg University, Germany; the Regional Resource Centre, Udipi, and the National Folk Lore Centre, Chennai, led by Prof. Peter J. Claus, Professor of Cultural Anthropology, University of California (Berkley).

A total of 15 candidates would be selected every year based on merit

Scholarships

As many as 10 of these students will receive a tuition waver and Rs.3,000 stipend for the year from the JRD Tata Trust, which supports the course.

The tuition fee for each of the other five students is Rs.50,000.

Successful completion of an individual project is mandatory for completion of the course.
