More students opt for B.Tech. Biotechnology

Counselling for first batch held at Vellore Institute of Technology University

Seats in B.Tech. Biotechnology got filled fast at the counselling for the first batch; i.e. those who secured ranks from one to 2000 in the VIT Engineering Entrance Examinations (VITEEE)-2008, on the VIT University campus here on Wednesday, for admitting candidates into various branches.

G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University, handed over the first allotment letter to Pallavi Agrahari of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, who secured the second rank in VITEEE-2008, and who selected B.Tech in Biotechnology.

He also handed over allotment letters to Sourav Mittal (B.Tech. Bioinformatics) of Kota, Rajasthan, who secured the 19th rank in VITEEE, Mahadevu Raviraj (B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering) of Vijayawada (25th rank), Juhi Dikshit (B.Tech. Biotechnology) of Bilai, Chhattisgarh (28th rank), Rahul Temani (B.Tech. Biotechnology) of Tonk, Rajasthan (29th rank) and Akanksha Mishra (B.Tech. Biotechnology) of Kanpur (34th rank).

During the first hour of counselling, the maximum of 16 seats got filled in B.Tech. Biotechnology, followed by five in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), two in Bioinformatics and one in Biomedical Engineering.

Counselling began on Wednesday for filling up 1,545 seats in 12 B.Tech. courses, comprising 266 seats each in Computer Science and Engineering and ECE, 236 in Biotechnology, 182 each in Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering, 126 in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 63 each in Bioinformatics and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, 49 in Civil Engineering, 42 each in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical and Energy Engineering, and 28 in Chemical Engineering.

G.V. Selvam, Pro-Chancellor, D.P. Kothari, Vice-Chancellor, and Anand A. Samuel, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the VIT University, were present.

Counselling will be held on June 6 for candidates who secured ranks from 2,001 to 3,500 in the VITEEE, on June 9 for ranks from 3,501 to 5,000 and on June 11 for ranks from 5,001 to 6,000.
